The Galerie Freitag 18.30 from Aachen issued a joint invitation alongside “Stimmen der Meere”.
Marcella Hansch has long been a familiar name among marine conservationists, and not only since launching her podcast “Stimmen der Meere”. Several years ago, she was the founder and driving force behind the project “The Sea Cleaners”. While that project is now behind her, she remains deeply connected to the ocean, including through her current podcast and the association of the same name. Friederike Kremer-Obrock was previously a guest on Marcella’s podcast, which sparked the idea of holding a lecture at the Galerie Freitag 18.30 in Aachen. In an intimate, exclusive setting before a full house of 30 guests, “Rike” shared accounts of her global encounters with sharks and other marine life. She also detailed the experiences that occur when one refuses to look away and insists on investigating the root of these issues. One point quickly became clear to the audience: industrial fishing is unsustainable. The consequences are devastating not only for the marine environment but also for human populations in countries reliant on fish as a primary food source. By the end of the evening, a growing number of attendees expressed an intention to abstain from consuming fish in the future, reflecting the sentiment: “Once you know, you can change things.” It was a successful evening dedicated to the protection of our ocean.
