The European Union has kept its promise and initiated the Impact Assessment on the ecological, social, and economic consequences of a trade ban on loose shark fins in the EU. This was demanded by 1.1 million European citizens.
As the first part of the Impact Assessment, the general public is again being consulted: in the "public consultation", responses are being gathered from everyone globally until 4 June 2024. The higher the participation, the greater the impact on EU decision-makers, and the more they will recognise that this issue is of major significance.

The other part of the Impact Assessment, the "Call for Evidence", is directed primarily at specialists. We have until 16 May 2024 to submit evidence demonstrating that shark conservation can only be achieved with a total ban on the trade of loose shark fins.
