ElasmOcean is committed, among other initiatives, to explaining the ocean to children. This is particularly successful on-site in kindergartens and schools. We are now introducing a read-aloud story to engage children in an exciting journey into the unknown world. These young people usually understand very quickly what can be done to counter the burdens that older generations place upon the ocean and its inhabitants. "Albert und die Scuba" is a compelling marine story for kindergartens and primary schools. Albert, an intelligent octopus, lives peacefully alongside his friends in a marine protected area. One day, strange creatures appear in the coral reef, destroying the nest of the Dreizahn couple and, to everyone's horror, abducting the most endearing residents of the reef, the seahorse couple Hottehüh. How Albert and his friends work together to free the two and drive away the strange creatures (at least for now?) is what we are now reading to kindergarten and primary school children in the first and second grades. Along the way, there is much worth learning about the reef dwellers and the ocean—complemented by our collection of objects used to support the story live on-site. The reading time is approximately 30 minutes, with the supporting programme totalling about 90 minutes. The minimum age is approximately five years. Contact: schuleelasmocean.org
