To put it in a nutshell: a great location, a wonderful team = a wealth of new and important knowledge alongside adventures for the children!
The WDR initiated the event "Türen auf mit der Maus", and ElasmOcean was one of over 750 hosts to open its doors. Unsurprisingly, given the educational nature of the programme, we were visited by several young "experts". While the subjects of marine microplastics and ghost nets astonished the children, the question of whether orcas prey on Great White Sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) yielded highly precise answers. Yes, even the "king of sharks" has predators. In addition, the Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), and even Sharky from the Kölner Haie ice hockey team were playfully identified in no time at all. Distinguishing whether a sirenian was a dugong (Dugong dugon) or a manatee (Trichechus) proved to be literally child's play. Haidemarie, our model shark in the pool of the Sharky Schwimmschule in Cologne-Lövenich, delighted in the starfish, and diving with her was an entirely new, rewarding, and exciting experience for the children!
Once again, this was a wonderful day for everyone involved, the children and our team! Thank you WDR! Click! Click!
