At the request of the local councillors of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, the clear majority of the Pfungstadt city council resolved late on the evening of 12 July 2021 to repeal the 2017 resolutions to sell the municipal land required for the project to the "Seven Seas" company.
Public pressure, which includes reporting by our team (as we reported), has prevailed. The project, which was incompatible with species conservation regulations from the outset, was ultimately prevented by committed citizens of Pfungstadt.
We congratulate Pfungstadt on this outcome - and hope that the concept of a giant shark aquarium will not be pursued elsewhere. Such large-scale show aquariums are outdated and, based on current scientific knowledge regarding animal welfare and species conservation, should no longer be legally permissible.
