On Sunday, together with the team from the "Blue-Live-Center", we cleaned up the Baltic Sea beach in Börgerende. With around 30 volunteers, the dunes and beaches were cleaned above and below water. Not only were everyday items such as packaging waste and masks recovered, but also a complete tent, stunt kites, an umbrella, car tyres - and, thanks to the deployment of divers, even fishing nets. These are all objects that persist for many hundreds of years, can become a deadly trap for animals, and ultimately decompose into microplastics if they remain in nature.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the hard-working volunteers who, despite the stormy cold weather, did not let themselves be deterred from joining us on the beach. Thanks also to the Baltic municipality of Börgerende-Rethwisch, which provided collection aids and will dispose of the waste professionally.
