When a global player focuses on sustainability, this is generally to be welcomed. Electronics companies are not typically associated with phasing out plastic products – but Schneider Electric is different. The globally active corporation was recently named the "world's most sustainable corporation" in the Global 100 ranking by Corporate Knights and, as winner in the Climate transformation category, received the Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis 2022 from the Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V. pin 2021. We took a closer look: the corporation is pursuing highly ambitious targets, including CO2 neutrality within its operations by the year 2030. What particularly caught our attention, however, is that Schneider Electric has a range of switches made from recycled plastic in its portfolio: 50% of the material originates from old fishing nets, which are processed into granulate and thus serve as the basic raw material for new plastics.
During the presentation of the "Ocean Plastic" range at the Internationale Funkausstellung IFA 2022 in Berlin, ElasmOcean explained the issue of marine plastic pollution to a specialist audience in several presentations. Shortly afterwards, we continued this new collaboration with another presentation at the company's internal Sustainability Day.
